The goals of our Artist-in-Residence program are characterized by the following inquiries:
- How can we create an environment in which artists have the freedom to explore and experiment?
- How can we create an environment that allows artists the luxury of sustained time in order to investigate ways of thinking, to focus ideas and to test vision?
- How can we structure programs and community outreach that give audiences an opportunity to observe and interact with artists who are engaged in their work while not imposing on artist's time and privacy?
- How can we establish residency guidelines that encourage a wide-ranging application pool?
- How can we support and nurture emerging artists at a crucial point in their career?
2008 Artist in Residence
Chris Jones
May 18th - August 17th, 2008 Chris Jones is a London based artist who creates sculptures that hover between the fantastical and the mundane, composed of images from magazines, calendars, encyclopedias and posters. During his three month residency at the HVCCA, Jones lived in Peekskill during which he worked directly in HVCCA’s mezzanine gallery to produce intricate site-specific sculptural installations. The results of his residency are combined with examples of recent work, piecing together local stories, history and terrain. More Information |
