SPECIAL EVENTS
FREE ARTS DAY AT HVCCA
A day long celebration of the arts in Westchester County
Sunday
December 6th, 2009
12:00-6:00pm
The Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art will host a Free Arts Day
on Sunday December 6th, 2009 from 12:00-6:00pm. Admission is free all day,
and special tours and performances will be taking place throughout the day
at the HVCCA.
- 1:00pm: Docent Tour of Double
Dutch exhibition led by HVCCA President and Co-Founder Dr. Livia Straus. DOUBLE
DUTCH: Is a powerful and unique exhibition, as the only site showcasing contemporary
Dutch installation and video art by a young generation of relatively unknown
artists, HVCCA boasts six works produced specifically for the exhibition; three
by HVCCA artists in residence. The works clarify an architectural foundation
that imbues much of the Dutch esthetic. Artists in the exhibition are: Job
Koelewijn, with a full size gas station made of over 3000 artist books, Jennifer
Tee, Dylan Graham, Alon Levin, Erik van Lieshout, Marc Bijl, Rob Voerman, Folkert
de Jong, Daan Padmos, Maartje Korstanje, Serge Onnen, Lara Schnitger, Karen
Sargsyan, Guido van der Werve, Martha Colburn, and Fendry Ekel.
- 2:00pm: Westchester Symphonic
Winds Clarinet and Saxophone Quartet
- 4:00pm: Urban Fetch
“Urban Fetch is a band that invites unlimited comparisons – but ultimately,
none of them seem adequate. In Danny Golub's piano playing and unique lead vocals,
one hears echoes of Ben Folds and Donald Fagen. The rhythm section of drummer
Josh Mankes and bassist Mike Buckner is tight as they come, but never at the
expense of energy or emotion. And just when you think you have the band figured
out, in comes lead guitarist Jim Cobb – the man can straight up play – and
brings the songs to a new dimension. Perhaps most impressive about the band,
however, is their ability to concisely synthesize the wildly disparate sounds
and genres of the modern musical landscape. Urban Fetch is not trite radio pop.
It is not a cynical indie band. It is not an unfocused improvisational savant.”
